Meet the Interns

Say “Hello” to two young people – Rebekah Smethurst and Rachel Arberry – with a special call to serve the Lord. They are the first interns at Moriah Baptist Church, Risca, who are getting “hands on” knowledge of church life and some possible insights of how and where God wants to use their gifts in the future.

The 139 internship @ Moriah is a new 10-month opportunity for young people to come and explore who God created them to be. Moriah’s assistant pastor Tim Moody said: “Using Psalm 139 as a template, we believe everyone was crafted by God with unique gifts and skills. The internship is designed to allow people to understand better who God has created them to be and look at how this can be a part of their future wherever God may call them.”

Rachel said: “I have just finished studying A- level maths, psychology and Religious Education in Bristol. I have always been extremely passionate about social justice and seeing the church being the hands and feet of Jesus. I decided to take 10 months out and move to Risca to do the 139internship in order to spend time exploring ministry and to learn more about who God created me to be.”

Rebekah, from Llanelli, said: “I chose to do this internship as I wanted an opportunity to be involved in mission in Wales and in the children’s ministries run by Moriah.”
