The Revd. Dr Peter Baines, of Llanwenarth Baptist Church, Govilon, has retired as Association superintendent minister after a number of years of faithful service. As a mark of appreciation, he was presented with a gift voucher by Association secretary Geoffrey Champion at the Autumn Council Meeting. The Revd. Mark Thomas, of Mount Pleasant, Blackwood, is the new superintendent minister.

Peter said: “I have enjoyed working for the Association in a variety of roles during my time in Gwent, and have counted it a privilege latterly to be of service to the churches as the Association superintendent. I am sure the role is in good hands with Mark taking over. I will continue to support the Association as a minister and member of the church worshipping at Llanwenarth, and wish you all well in the future. May God bless you as you continue in your service to the churches and to our Saviour.”

In other changes, Mr Tim Moody, assistant pastor at Moriah ,Risca, has become Association vice-president while Mrs Eryl Dykes (Ebenezer, Abertillery) and the Revd. Richard Miles (Upper Trosnant, Pontypool) have become new co-opted members of the officers’ group. The Revd. Huw Stephens (Bethesda, Rogerstone) and Mr Ron Spillards (an evangelist and member at Mount Pleasant, Blackwood) have been re-elected as co-opted members.

The full officers’ group is: The Revd. Dr Suzanne Roberts, president; Mr Tim Moody, vice-president; the Revd. Olwen Clatworthy, immediate past president; the Revd. Marc Owen, chairman; the Revd. Mark Thomas, superintendent minister; Mr Keith Fordham, treasurer and Mr Geoffrey Champion, secretary along with co-opted members the Revd. Richard Harrison, Mr Ron Spillards, the Revd Huw Stephens, the Revd. Jonathan Forman, Mrs Eryl Dykes and the Revd. Richard Miles.
